Bruce Walker - Glass engraver
Bruce Walker was born in Aberdeenshire in 1946. He served a four year apprenticeship as a stone carver in Aberdeen and at the same time attended Aberdeen Technical College and Grey's School of Art, where he studied drawing, lettering, and stone carving. This led to an interest in glass engraving as an extension to his stone working skills. In 1975, he set up his own business hand-engraving fine glassware and also continued to carve stone. From 1975-1997, Bruce worked from his studio at Kirkbuddo in Angus, and then moved to Kirriemuir where he established a glass studio in one of the craft units in Cumberland Close. Having engraved glass for forty years, Bruce now has pieces in numerous private collections in Britain and overseas. He specialises in wildlife and buildings but will engrave anything to order. He has been carving stone for even longer. His training in Aberdeen taught him to work in granite, though he now also works in sandstone, slate, marble, limestone, and soapstone. Many of his stone carvings can be found in Angus, from fountains and sun dials to coats of arms and statues. See his work in the catalogue here .
