Alison Geissler studied design at Edinburgh College of Art from 1925 to 1931. She worked only sporadically until the 1950s when she returned to college to refresh her knowledge. Her grandfather had been a glass engraver in Edinburgh and this may have persuaded her to take up the same craft. The glass department at Edinburgh College of Art had only recently been established in the early 1950s under the gifted Helen Monro Turner, who encouraged Geissler in her chosen career. By the end of the 1950s. Geissler was engraving glass for Edinburgh Crystal and thereafter produced large numbers of works to private commission. Examples of her engraving can be found in most major British public collections and in the collection of Her Majesty the Queen.
