Glass articles - Glass Makers and Artists |
From correspondence with a collector.
I invariably sign my glass C V Ramsay and usually mark where it was made eg C4, LGW, B4, and the date. Since 2001 the year has been marked as a letter eg E.
I started making glass with Peter Layton in Morar, Inverness-shire in 1975. The following year we set up the London Glassblowing Workshop in Rotherhithe (LGW moved to Bermondsey in 1995). During this time I twice left Peter to set up my own studios: 1978-81 at Tweedbank near Melrose; 1986-9 in Vauxhall. I finally left LGW in 1999 to return to Scotland, this time to the HIghlands, about 20 miles west of Inverness. Here in a barn I have a small furnace, and have been making paperweights, perfume bottle, and petite vases in small quantities. I have decided to retire (65 in 2008), and will be leaving Scotland to move south.
