Ardagh has a long association with glass manufacturing in Scotland, and its plant in Portland, Irvine, is one of the area’s largest employers It has achieved considerable recognition for its extensive creativity, knowledge and expertise during the past 70 years of operations.
Quality has always been its major focus and overriding philosophy. It is embraced at every level within the company, and has been supported by a company-wide improvement programme as well as through an extensive investment programme in machinery, tools and systems technology.
Glass packaging is very topical at the moment. A new European survey reveals that 88% of European consumers prefer glass packaging over other packaging materials to contribute to a healthy lifestyle. According to the survey, 88% of consumers also prefer glass because it is good for the environment and 72% believe it is better for recycling than other materials.
The results of a 2008 survey of 6,200 Europeans from 12 countries shows that 74% of Europeans prefer glass packaging for food and drinks because “it preserves taste and protects against contamination”.
