Musical whisky bottle souvenir with Registered design No 725384 impressed (1926 registration). Bakelite type plastic cap. Fired enamel transfer decorated with 6 Scottish regiments and gilt banding. The plywood mounted brass and steel Swiss made Thorens movement plays "Just a Wee Deoch and Doris" - this Gaelic expression means to have a small last drink before you go. (Literally a drink at the door) No reason that this was not made in Scotland, but no way of telling, certainly made for Scottish market. A visit to the National Archives would reveal who registered the design but not when it was manufactured or by whom! Dating via the musical movement is also inconclusive but from materials I would have expected a much later date than 1926. Anything upto the 1950's seems possible. 192mm (7½") high UNKNOWN MAKER Image ©2007 F Andrews |
