Van Gogh Inspirations - This collection of paperweights, designed by Helen MacDonald, are a tribute to the paintings of one of the most popular artists of all time, Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh (1853-1890) had an unsuccessful career as an art gallery salesman and then as a preacher before discovering his own painting talent in 1880. He studied his art intensely, concentrating mainly on downbeat subjects. In September 1883 he discovered colour and this soon dominated all his perceptions, creating "a lullaby in colour". "The sympathy an artist feels for certain lines and for certain colours will cause his soul to be reflected in them".
