Free blown Monart Glass lidded bowder bowl. 120mm (4¾") Diameter, 110mm (4¼") high. Unusual four-layer cased construction that causes the blue and gold to float above the orange and cast a shadow as can be seen in the close-up views. Inner orange, clear cased, blue and gold marvered on, final clear casing as shown here:
1. Orange base The base has an applied clear foot. As with so many knobbed Monart lids the poor annealing lead to large stress cracks that only affect the orange layer. Not in original catalogues and almost certainly a one-off special. The L designation catalogues were created on ysartglass.com to document some of the non-catalogue pieces of Monart that were produced. Some were family pieces but others were labelled and marked as 'Special' This particular box was illustrated in the book Ysart Glass as plate 21. ©2007 F Andrews / Ysartglass.com |
