Eilidh MacKenzie works in fused and stained glass, and in 2006 she won the the Pearsons Prize for the "Best Use of Glass in Fusion."
Eilidh first became involved with glass when when she started working for Liz Rowley Stained Glass as an apprentice in 1999 and fell in love with the material: its colours, textures and surface treatments, and the endless techniques and processes for manipulating it. In October 2000 she was accepted for a three-month apprenticeship at the Vertrate Artistche Toscana, in Siena, Italy, and began to learn about glass fusing.
In 2002, Eilidh set up in business as a professional glass artist. Luminessence was established to initiate and manage freelance commissions in fused and stained glass and for exhibiting and selling original artworks through various gallery outlets. The company is based at Wasp Studios in Glasgow. Eilidh works with leaded glass, fused glass, glass mosaic and copper foiled glass.
Much of Eilidh's original work is for private commissions, but she has worked on many stained glass windows, both new and old, for churches in Scotland, and she created two large fused, painted and sand blasted glass windows for the Caird Hall, Dundee. Her work can also be seen in various Scottish galleries.
