Timespan Museum and Arts Centre, Dunrobin Street, Helmsdale KW8 6JX
Opening times: Monday - Saturday 10-5pm, Sunday 12-5pm
In this partnership exhibition, Timespan and North Lands Creative Glass will be showcasing selected works which were made at the North Land's studios in Lybster, Caithness, by artists influenced by the sea, landscape and lore of Scotland's far North. The selection of pieces can be seen in a special preview at Timespan on Friday 26th March at 7pm.
Most of the works on show will be by well known glass and visual artists, including Peter Aldridge (UK/USA), Bertil Vallien (Sweden), David Nash (UK), Loretta Lowman (USA), Sean O’Neill (USA), Zora Palova (Slovakia), Luisa Restrepo (Columbia/Mexico), Bibi Smit (The Netherlands), Richard Whiteley (Australia), Carole Frève (Canada), Jeff Zimmer (UK/USA) and Bernard Dejonge (France).
North Lands Creative Glass has become recognised as one of Europe's leading centres of excellence for its international master classes and residencies for professional artists at all stages in their career. North Lands is open both to glass artists and to painters, sculptors, architects and designers wishing to explore the technical and artistic potential of glass either on its own or in combination with other materials. This selection of work has been curated to show the different ways artists have used glass to demonstrate their response to this unique part of the country. Timespan is delighted to work with North Lands on this exhibition and along with an extensive outreach programme, there will be a premier of a short film which documents some of the processes involved in working with glass.
This exhibition has been generously supported by the Scottish Arts Council.
